Sedative dependence is one of the biggest drug dependence related problems in the world today. In countries such as the United States, sedative dependence extracts a hefty toll on the healthcare system, both in terms of lost work and the costs of medical care associated with accidents and drug overdoses. Patients addicted to sedatives may experience symptoms such as tachycardia, high blood pressure, sweating, nausea, and insomnia. Marijuana may actually be a more favorable alternative to sedates, providing many of the same benefits without the side effects. Marijuana can also be helpful in terms of speeding up the recovery process after quitting sedative use.
