HyperventilationHyperventilation is a condition commonly characterized by several deep breaths taken in rapid succession. Also called “overbreathing”, the condition causes the reduction of carbon dioxide in the body. When this happens, the person may experience symptoms such as dizziness, faintness, tingling in the skin, muscle cramps and spasms, dryness of the mouth, and even pain in the chest. Although the condition isn’t usually life-threatening, it may indicate a more serious health condition. There is also a risk of the patient passing out and hurting himself during an episode.

Marijuana may be able to help patients control panic attacks that may lead to hyperventilation. It may also help relive stress that is so often a trigger for the attacks.
